About The Event
In the book, Abolition. Feminism. Now., the authors discuss “the slow work of building collective capacity to imagine and act“ – or, what they call the “urgent slow time of abolition.” Abolitionary practice requires a twin vision located in the now and in the horizon. How do we attend to the bittersweetness of this twin vision - one that promises safety, care, abundance for all of us, while also acknowledging that what we have now is not enough, violent and, often, full of despair. Thinking with the work of Black abolitionary writers, this poetry workshop aims to honor the bittersweetness of slow time abolition so that we may strengthen and deepen our work as community members, organizers, artists and makers.
